The
Beta
Test

WHAT DO WE ACTUALLY KNOW?

Most organisation can tell you what they think is happening. The beta test asks whether it is true,

START WITH THE ASSUMPTION.

Every organisation has them.

Why people leave.

Why hiring takes too long.

Why a process doesn't work.

Why one team performs differently from another.

Why candidates decline.

Why something has "always been done this way."

Repeat something often enough and eventually it stops sounding like an assumption.

IT STARTS SOUNDING LIKE FACT.

CAN YOU EVIDENCE IT?

The Beta Test does not begin by looking for a problem.

It begins with something you already believe to be true and tests whether the evidence underneath it can carry its own weight.

Sometimes it can.

Sometimes it cannot.

Both answers are useful.

THIS IS NOT A DIAGNOSTIC

Not a healthcheck.
Not a maturity score.
Not a benchmark dressed up as an answer.
Not twenty questions designed to lead inevitably towards the service we wanted to sell you anyway.

There is no predetermined diagnosis waiting at the end.

Because complex organisations do not become understandable simply because somebody put them into a five point scale.

THE BETA TEST GIVES US THE COORDINATES TO THE START.
NOT A GUIDE ROPE TO THE FINISH

Its job is to establish an anchor point.

Something we can evidence.
Something we understand well enough to work from.
Something solid enough to stop guessing.

What happens next depends entirely on what we find.

There is no prescribed route because there is no prescribed answer.

WE ASK THE QUESTIONS OTHERS DON'T.

WHAT DO WE ACTUALLY KNOW?

What is fact and what have we simply come to accept?

CAN YOU EVIDENCE IT?

What sits underneath the claim?

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT ISN'T TRUE?

If we remove the assumption, what changes?

WHAT IS LEFT?

What remains solid enough to build from?

NOTHING IS ACCEPTED BY DEFAULT

No matter how many times you say it.

THE POINT?
NOT TO PROVE YOU WRONG.

The point is to know.

A long held assumption may survive every challenge we put against it.

GOOD!

Now we know we have something real to work from.

Or the evidence may expose a completely different picture.

ALSO GOOD!

Because improvement built on an inconvenient truth has a far better chance than improvement built on a comfortable assumption.

ASSUMPTION.
EVIDENCE.
ANCHOR POINT.

THAT. IS WHERE BETTER BEGINS
